BEHIND THE FORECAST
Local weather. Clear context.
MinnesotaWeather.org is an independently operated weather dashboard for Minnesota. We bring official forecasts, observations, alerts, and observed radar into one place. We do not issue warnings or claim government affiliation.
Where the data comes from
- National Weather Service API: point-based forecasts, hourly periods, observations from a nearby reporting station, and active official alerts. A station observation may differ from conditions at your exact location.
- NOAA MRMS time-enabled radar: a catalog of historical base-reflectivity frames. Reflectivity measures radar returns; it does not by itself identify rain versus snow or accumulation.
- U.S. Census Bureau 2025 Gazetteer: 916 Minnesota incorporated places and census-designated places. City search uses representative points, not street addresses.
- OpenStreetMap contributors: base map. Standard community tiles are used under the tile usage policy; availability is not guaranteed.
Understanding update times
Observation, forecast issue, radar frame, and retrieval times are separate. A new retrieval does not make old measurements current. Cached data can be marked stale; a failed alert request is never treated as an all-clear. All displayed times use America/Chicago.
Forecast detail
Daily high and low values come from the available daytime and overnight forecast periods. A partial day may have only one value. The next 24 hours use available hourly periods. Missing precipitation probabilities and measurements remain unavailable.
When conditions matter
Read official alert instructions and consult weather.gov for the latest local guidance. For reported road conditions use MnDOT 511. Weather forecasts are separate from road reports and do not establish driving or lake-ice safety.
